The End of a 62 mile Ultra Marathon. It was tough. I was crying.
My name is Jared Heath and I started MarathonWOD to combine two things that I enjoy. Ultra marathon running and Crossfit.
A little backstory, I’ve been getting into ultra marathon running (Running further than 26.2 miles) for the past year and a half, and also Crossfit, and realized I like them both a lot. Over the past year I’ve also done a lot of research into Zone 2 heart rate training (slow easy pace) and it’s long term health benefits.
MarathonWOD is the outcome of these experiences and learning. I believe that doing long slow effort (~1-2 hours or more) functional fitness movements will make you healthy and strong. This style of training will improve your quality of life and create a robust base of fitness you can build on for almost any other fitness goal and it doesn’t require running a ton of miles.
Through doing long, slow training and events, I have come to appreciate the importance of endurance for everyday life and health, both physically and mentally. There is such an immense sense of accomplishment when you complete a physical endurance challenge. Whether it’s a marathon, ultra marathon, or a Marathon WOD, everyone should try it at least once. It’s really worth it.
